View Full Version : ROSTRUMS are eeeeeevil!!!
http://www.art-design.herts.ac.uk/Resources/JPG/aa016.JPG I've decided this device is the spawn of evil. It might look hi tech, but I assure you the one that Claire and I are being forced to use is more akin to some middle aged torture device.
So we're starting a campaign against having to spend hours on an outdated machine to do what a PC could do in a fraction of the time by looking for pitch fork donations. Torches and sharp, pointy sticks are also in demand, and if you like, you can sign up for membership of angry mob 3457742 at the end of the hall. False names are acceptable due to the nature of the mobbing.....

Oh come on! I use a 35mm animation camera all the time! Don't shun old technology!
but whyyyyyyy? Why spend hours figuring out how to truck out, pan south and pan east at the same time with long division when you can make flash do it for you???? And why use a machine that requires (well not requires, but whatever) four people to operate the cranks and push the take button when one could operate a little PC? What's really making me mad is that I'm in my final year, and this is cutting into our other MORE IMPORTANT classes. No more than one person has been able to shoot a full 2-2.5 min lyca in a day yet. I got most of mine done, but then we got kicked out cause college was closing and We had to turn everything off and then when I came back the next day the thing had buckled. And you know what??? NO FUCKING UNDO BUTTON!!!!!!! It's evil I tells ya!
I get it, I appreciate the hard work of past animators, but why couldn't we have learned to appreciate it two years ago when it would have been fun?????????
On the up side, I did get a refresher of oh so important long division for the first time since school....... who'd a thought I'd ever need to know that again.

Well, I can see that you'd hate it if you need to save time.
exactly. Now tell me, isn't there anything you've ever had to do for scool/college/work that you felt was utterly pointless? It's happened to everyone some time. I had to learn Irish in school for example, which is cool, but I don't see why it was manditory for my leaving cert. What a waste.

Hahaha. Is it sad that I knew what you were talking about before I even opened the thread?

See, my last college didn't even have animation stands. We had this whole setup called "Digicel" that's kind of a pencil test machine; it's supposed to feed a whole stack at once through a scanner and order it in sequence so you can play it back in a few minutes... if it works. More often than not though, it would chew up your paper and then crash the machine attatched to it.
Oh man, this one time during finals, every single pencil test machine was busted. We were all standing there pitching a fit and pulling our hair out when one of the professors, Piotrowski (who has this amazingly thick Polish accent), came in and went "Hey guys, what's up?" We told him that none of the machines were working, and he just went; "Ehh, ees okay. You go home, you have coffee, you put brandy in eet... you relax!" And then he left.
Ahh. The good ole' days.

Yes I know something that is a waste, and is currently causing my average to be in dangerous terriotories. Dividing Algebraic equations and factoring them into simplest terms using such things as long division. FUCKING POINTLESS. That and my math teacher is a pasty bitch who doesn't allow me to utalize my extra-help services and should be fired for being an incompetant bitch...

that's the most amazing story/professor ever.

These things exist????? Even if they're crappy, they will improve and replace the need for using amigas to line test page by page by page...... Amigas are dodgy, but to be honest, our line tester PCs are less reliable..... I'm confused about how crappy they are concidering there is a gaggle of almost brand new dells in the next room.....

Oh but we all know now through Shivs amazing Rostrum Camera adventures that long division IS important.......
