...for 10 games.
Alex Sanchez (outfielder: Tampa bay) was the first this season to get the hammer, after a test (that was taken back when he was a member of the Tigers, mind..) positive for use of sterioids.
'course, he's vehemently denying it, and insisting he's never taken steriods, it might have been some kind of milkshake or suppliment that gave him a "false positive".
This kinda suprised me a bit that baseball's actually going out and levying punishments so early after the hearings. and sanchez, if you know anything about baseball, is a speed dæmon, not a power hitter...and happens to be on my rotisserite league team.
so, i'm fucked for an outfielder spot for a week or two. oh yeah, and he's losing $30,000 of his salary (suspended without pay for 10 days). $30,000 is..what, about the average amount a worker in america makes in one year nowadays?
But, is this just an example to scare players "straight"? from what it looks like to me, the day before the season starts, they could have suspended one of the big boys, like Sosa (don't tell me he hasn't taken steriods. I remeber sosa coming up with the rangers and chisox in the early 90's, and he was NOTHING like he is today). but they chose to suspend a (still high-calibre, but not exactly famous) player.
so, is it it a ban to warn people that they'll enforce rules? or is it fo shizzle?
