He says to me, he says, "Why not post your writing at RWAM? THere's even a forum for it and everything. I says "Eh", but then get yanked along.
I was real easy to peer pressure as a kid.
So, here's a poem based off a Talking Heads' song.
Vice, Lust, and Amnesia
“There’s a party in my mind, and I hope it never stops.”
-“Memories Can’t Wait” Talking Heads
I am reminded—of smoke, of music, of the stink of lust,
Of the time I swallowed a pill given to me
By an anonymous girl (I forget her name now,
Must not have been too memorable, but her lips and
The gentle slope of her ass was). The rest of the night
We danced to tunes in our heads, the bumping techno
That happens when you drown your brain in nitrous oxide,
And in those numb seconds between bass and treble, her tongue was in my mouth.
I am reminded—of the sweat stain smell, of silence broken
By breath and busted promises. Fidelity was never my strong point.
I am reminded—of a soft song on repeat, of the techno that only
The late seventies could produce (and funny enough, you’d need to
Be on a bender as well. I always liked that sense of connection).
I am reminded—memories, these memories can’t wait.
Now wasn't that fun and educational? Edutainment, I say.
