View Full Version : The Many Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide
Bleaching skulls and giving stubs for fingers!
Okay here is the deal. I soaked my hands in hydrogen peroxide to bleach my nails and now my fingernails hurt like fucking crazy and they feel like they're about to pop off if they touch anything.
WHY?

Well, hydrogen peroxide burns skin on contact. Only lower concentrations (like 3% or something) can be used for cleaning wounds and stuff. If you bite your nails or the skin around them, the hydrogen peroxide probably got inside and is eating your fingers. I really dunno about bleaching though.

Yeah, soaking anything on your body in hydrogen peroxide isn't very smart. It's only supposed to be for light topical application.
Why the hell were you trying to bleach your fingernails?

I used to pour it on my infected toe nails. But that medical stuff. It did hurt for a while after...but not much.

I just soaked my thumb in hydrogen peroxide for like, 4 minutes and I feel fine.
It was 3%. And it did bleach my nails a bit. I read up on bleaching your nails with hydrogen peroxide and apparently you can dab it on until they are bleached but I am impatient and I wanted both sides at once.
I wanted to bleach my nails because they are a bit yellowed from polish.
I had them soaking for like 30 minutes. I put hydrogen peroxide in gloves and rubberbanded them to my hands. I figured something was wrong because after about 10 minutes they started tingling and stinging under my fingernails but it felt good in a weird way. I wonder if they'll fall off.

You're in for a fun few weeks.

dunno if this still applies but ...
4. First Aid Measures
Inhalation:
Not expected to require first aid measures.
Ingestion:
Give several glasses of water to drink to dilute. If large amounts were swallowed, get medical advice.
Skin Contact:
Not expected to require first aid measures. Wash exposed area with soap and water. Get medical advice if irritation develops.
Eye Contact:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately.
i don't know that you really need medical attention. they just cover their ass in case something happens.
but you should probably wash it good. maybe soak your hands in some regular water to dilute the concentration.
it hurts because peroxide actually eats away at the skin. that's why your fingers gett all white if you leave them soak too long. it's the dead skin. same with actual bleach.

I almost had to get my toenail removed because it got infected.
I had to get both my left and right toe nails taken off. The sides had to be taken completly off, with acid. I kid you not. And you know what sucks? When the toe is so infected that the numbing agent will not take hold and they have to take the nail out anyway, then put the acid on the open wound for another minute. Yeah. That's right. It hurts. It hurts like a bitch. Now I have these little stunted toe nails.
They look okay now. But before the operations(more than 6 times I had to go over 2 years...) there would be pus that would seep through the socks...yeah. Gross.

It's like a tendon that is pulled...or something. It hurts if I stand on it for a long time.

It's actually where the sheath that goes around the tendon (the bursa) keeps snagging stuff because of inflamation in the tendon itself.
I know this because I have it real bad in my left hand, and it's the reason I can't play guitar any more and had to switch drawing hands. :(
