I had a book, where like, monsters were in all different colors, and they would hide in something that was the same color as them, but one of them was a multicolored monster and he couldn't hide anywhere, but then he found out that he could, in fact, hide in a wildflower patch, or a colorful crowd, etc.

And we might have cable in very early years, as I remember being a fan of Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles, but I don't ever remember our family having enough money to pay for it. My memory sucks. I know that there was this long length of time before fourth grade when we couldn't afford cable and thus we never watched TV.

jeez people really need to get their childhood priorities straight.

Damn straight. Man, how many train derailings did I bear witness to as a lad? Kids today don't get that sorta stuff from this "JayJay the Jetplane" shit. Have I mentioned how downright HIDEOUS those characters are? I mean damn.

I remember a Sesame Street book where Ernie thought there was something out to get him, but he was looking at something inanimate the whole time or some crap like that. I dun really remember.

As for Mr. Rogers, the Trolley was the only neat thing about the show. I mean, where the hell did it come from? How did it come by those interdimensional travel powers? Therte could have been tons of backstory about it, but they left it a total mystery. It's MYSTERIOUS. Like Mr. Tastey. Which makes it good by default.

Also, I saw a part of Lion King 2 the other day, and there were rivers running UPHILL. I call "no way" on that.

The Lion King 2 was the movie equivalent of the Frankenstein monster.

It was based on something that was great, but assembled crudely from decaying parts and wound up being pure evil.

It seemed to me to be a somewhat more upbeat take on Romeo and Juliet, just as the first movie was an upbeat take on Hamlet. "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders" is the true cinematic equivelant to frankenstein's monster. Just as "Chronicles of Riddick" was the cinematic equivelant to huffing spraypaint.

So. Anyone seen the second pokémon movie? Truly that was the one the dodgers wrote! (Sorry. But seeing as how we've already covered TV nostalgia it would seem like a break in tradition if a pokemon discussion wasn't brought up at some point.)

Meat Load
08-18-2005, 09:17 PM
Holy shit, I didn't even think of that. Now it all makes sense. Never mind, it wasn't the worst movie ever.

ALSO: I'm assuming you're talking about Pokemon 2000, which was pretty good in comparison with some of the series. The villian was believeable enough, and the addition of Lugia made it more interesting, but Ash's love interest was unnecessary to the max.

t3
08-18-2005, 09:22 PM
Yeah, 2000, or the power of 1, or lugia's awakening or WHATEVER it's called. James openly admitted his homosexuality, Oak and Ms. Ketchum's ongoing love affair was made quite evident by Mr. Mime's reactions to Oak's arrival, Madam- er... I mean, Professor Ivy's boobs caused a helicopter to crash, and team Rocket acted all heroic and proved that they are not 1 dimensional cartoon villains.

It had some things going for it, yeah...

Meat Load
08-18-2005, 09:25 PM
I need to see that one again. I don't remember all of that.

Almost anything Team Rocket does winds up being funny, though. They're even dumber looking in the movies, because they ususally have to compete with actual, competant villans.

t3
08-18-2005, 09:28 PM
Yeah, that's why I wish the new episodes would focus on teams Aqua and Magma more often. That's like the first continuing story arch in Pokemon that hasn't sucked. I mean, if Oak wants Ash to hand-deliver him a Gratuitous Sex ball, fine, but why must lapras have anyhting to do with it? And May's pokemon contests. Jeez. As if they didn't flesh out the gym badge collecting enough already. Now it's like, filler x2.

Meat Load
08-18-2005, 09:31 PM
They did have one semi-decent storyline, the one where Misty returns.

But what was the deal with that one where Aqua and Magma are fighting over this ancient tomb, and then Ash finally gets rid of them and opens it and it's full of fucking RELICANTH?! That was such a letdown.

t3
08-18-2005, 09:38 PM
Yes. Misty is finally rid of that awful egg. But now Togetic is off plotting world conquest somewhere. Ghudlawd.

When Ash ran in on that volcano and dumped the moon rock into the lava, Team Aqua was all "dude we totally pwned those n00bs" and I was all like "no you just sat there while a 10 year old meathead did your job for you. I mean DAMN." Jeez.

I cannot wait to see the "Pokemon Housou" episodes. I think they're calling them "Pokemon Chronicles" over here, but there's a buncha cool backsotry on characters, and also stuff about supporting cast members when they weren't with Ash. Like how Misty got a Gyrados, how Brock had to save his gym and his idiot dad from an evil water pokemon trainer, and (yeee!) how Jesse James and Meowth met up. RAWK.

t3
08-18-2005, 09:57 PM
And what's odd is Team Magma went on to kid themselves and say "well at least we foiled THOSE GUYS". Yeah, whatever you need to tell yourself. Team Rocket may not be the most competent bunch around, but at least they can admit when they're beat.
I saw a preview for an episode modeled after the part of the GBA game where the ancient pokemon are awakened and it starts raining and Doomsday is upon us at last. Yet I have seen naught but a silly episode about Lunatone since. WHAT UP WITH THAT??

edit: Yeah and what about that other playable character in the game? Where's he? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to be her rival than this "drew" fella'? I mean, sicne gary is quitting Pokemon training I see the need for a new nasaly cocky rival to get all up in the hero's face and all, but really.
