Well, not in my house, but-eh, I'll get to the story. A stray cat that we took in had kittens in our house. Being the crazy animal-lovers that we are, we kept them and we've raised them. We've also gone through all the medical procedures so that we know we don't have to take them to the vet to be put down or anything. They're perfectly healthy kittens. But they're now old enough (close to 7 weeks old) that they're weaned, and it's getting close to the time when we have to either give them away or take them to the pet store. Being as attached to them as I am, I know I'm not going to be perfectly happy with any home they go into. But one has finally been given away. Yesterday, we gave one to one of my sister's friends-and I knew her whole house was infested with fleas, so I was dead-set against it. But my mother gave her the kitten anyway.
So....I went to said person's house today. At first the kitten seemed fine and I was ready to say "Oh, well that's alright then."
Then I picked her up and she was totally covered in fleas. Needless to say, I'm pissed as fuck. But I'm willing to do just about anything within reason to get rid of the fleas. God knows why I came here, but it was the first place I thought of so here goes nothing: Does anyone here know of a way to get rid of fleas on kittens without spending insane amounts of money which no one we know has? I'm not positive these people will consider going to a vet. So any kind of ideas would be greatly appreciated. *crosses fingers*
Flea bath, buy some flea killing shampoo. After that put a flea collar on the cat. Take the cat somewhere else, like your home for a while, and bomb their house. Bombs that are meant for bugs(mainly fleas) of course.
Make sure if they have any other pet, that they get cleaned for fleas as well.
So shampoo, flea color, and insect bombs (I forget what is called). Seems like all of that lays in a reasonable price range for what you want to do.
This should fix the whole problem.

Flea collars cause neurological problems in kittens. Use Advantage, a topical you can get from your veterinarian. It lasts for a month. Their house must be horrible. Only 5% of the flea population of one house is found on the pet, the rest lives in the carpet. Gross.

Advantage only works on regular infestations. My old neighbor (whos an old cat lady) tried it on her flea den and it had little impact. It kept some of the fleas off, but there were just so many it didnt really help. In the end she had to bomb the house and wash all the cats.

well we tried the Advantage thing, so we're gonna see how it turns out. i'm not sure if they intend to bomb their house or not. the sad thing is, they claim they did last week. it sure doesn't show. bah...i hate caring so much, if it wasn't a kitten that i hadn't raised myself i probably wouldn't worry but i'm all..."i...raised it...in my house...and you're just gonna let it die...BY LETTING BUGS CRAWL ON IT?!" so yeah, their house is awful. i don't even like to stay there very long because i usually find bites all up my legs if i wore sandals and shorts :/

Flea collar or bath.

you have to bomb the house at least 3 times. after the first time a week later, and a third time 2 weeks later. the problem with the bombs is that they only kill adults and the baby fleas, not the ones still in egg form.

yeah, they are definitely overdue for another bombing. their house is still infested with fleas, and they also have a baby in the house. that can't be good for it either :(

we have a very sickly dog and she can't handle any kind of poison. we used a lot of "organic" things. including garlic powder.
we wound up setting up flea traps. put a tray of soapy water (to break the water tension) under a night light. the fleas are attracted to light. then they drown. we counted 50 in the tray in my parents' room the first night.
isn't it something like, for every one you see there are nine more?

Thats why you get a can or box of powder to spray/spread on as much cloth as you can before you bomb the house and after you bomb the house. Problem is you have to do EVERYTHING. Furniture, drapes, carpet, table cloths, laundry, bedding, the works.
Thats what it took to help our neighbor. (We only helped her cuz we lived in an apartment complex and the fleas were starting to come through the heating system to our appartment.)

Yeah, the light thing works. During the day, we would leave oil lamps burning on the floor...it helped, but didn't cure the problem entirely.
