it's totally depressing when Jon Arbuckle is getting more than you.

Oh God. Garfield sucks. I'll let someone else explain for me.

Man, I saw the thread title and got all hopeful that someone had re-posted that old link to the edited garfield comics I love so much. And here all I find is a by-proxy maddox rant.

Disappointing. Just.... disappointing.

...I guess I'm the only one that does read Garfield...

I don't like it mind you, but they go and decide to give Jon a girlfriend, and that's just depressing.

The strip's supposed to be about how he's a bigger loser than you.

And pity parties rock, guys.

Eqze likes Garfield.

They pulled it from the Globe, so I don't read it anymore.

garfield is about 3 times funnier than maddox.

i like it. or, liked it. this new storyline thing they're doing is pretty ridiculous. the only redeeming characteristic of newer garfield was that it was heavily dependent on crushing one-liners - the storyline eliminates that, and just sort of quizzically tries to find the comedy in jon arbuckle having a girlfriend. it's about as depressing as the garfield comic strip will ever manage to be.

keith: perhaps you were referring to the garfield randomizer?

No, I'm not very funny, am I? i wasn't referring to you at all, i just really don't enjoy maddox very much. it's pretty easy to recreate a maddox article - smash a wooden baseball bat, jam one of the splintered pieces into your asshole, and then sit down and watch/read/experience something. soon you'll find that your opinions on whatever is happening are both rather vitriolic and ultimately meaningless, because you can't get past the bloody stick jammed in your ass.

I wasn't reffering to you, either. I was actually just talking to myself. Good point though.

ha ha.

Scott Adam's faced something similar. dilbert got a girlfriend, so Scott polled his fan base on whether or not Dilbert should lose his virginity. It was an overwhelming no. Apparently people really don't want to see the loser they laugh at to feel better about themselves getting more than they are. I'm surprised to find out so many people base their self esteem on dorky cartoon characters.

i'm actually proud of jim davis for trying to take his strip in a new direction. it's been wallowing in the same semi-sarcastic unfunniness for the last twenty years, and this may be a sign that he's finally realized it.

I never liked garfeild, but you can't dislike it because it's humanly impossible to dislike talking pets.

I don't read comics, not even dilbert is funny any more. Or maybe it's just me.

I read the whole comics page out of habit...

generally it's nothing to call home about, but sometimes there'll be a funny one- intentionally or otherwise-that will make me chuckle.

It's like toast and bacon for me... a morning ritual.

Also horoscope is on the same page, and I need to see how awesome my love life is.

and the Burlington Free Press comics selection is SO atrocious....

please. :(

BreadObama69

Oh, God yes.

I don't think the feds let a paper NOT run that slice of heaven.

As a matter of fact, a few months back someone wrote a letter to the editor about how the Mark Trail content has gotten out of hand from what it used to be.

and I could only imagine what it was like in the past.
