depends on what is being used to fuel the bonfire. any chemicals or plastic carcinogens that are being burned would probably make me think twice about putting anything edible over it.
I am burning wood, not lawn chairs.

ha!
mmm, I remember that when we used to go camping, we had a thing that had two round metal halves on a handle that opened and closed, and we would put a slice of white bread on the top and bottom of the round halves and fill the middle with canned apples, hence, an "apple pie" and warm it over the fire. I can't find a pic of it though...
also: hotdogs? I guess you could put them on a stick...

ooh takker, those are called mountain pies. they're awesome if you use pizza sauce and cheese.
when I was a girl scout we would make hamburgers on upside-down coffee cans that we heated up really hot in the fire. it was pretty ghetto

oh yeah, tinfoil potatoes. my dad makes them on the grill. slice them up, add some butter, garlic, and maybe some onions, wrap up the pile in foil and cook. they're pretty delicious.
jest: I like the pizza idea. too bad I don't have that pie maker thing, or that I don't go camping anymore...

in my experience, the best things to roast over an open bonfire is textbooks on the last day of school.
