View Full Version : Who do you think will win the election?

Not who you want to, who you think the rest of America will vote for.
Much as I would like Obama to win, we seem to have a giant boner for old white guys in suits telling us what to do.
Due to being not plugged into the American psyche (take that how you will), I abstain.

I think Bush may just have been enough to make people good and tired of Republicans for a while.

I remember seeing something on The Daily Show about McCain's plan to save the nation millions of dollars by cutting the Presidential Bodyguard force, saying he challenges people to attack him so he can rip their hearts out and and make them watch as he eats it.
"Give peace a chance" my ass, Obama. This country needs strong, god-fearing, psychotic white men.

although, if there ABSOLUTELY HAS to be a republican in office, i'd like mccain. or guiliani.
man, i wish bloomberg or jon stewart would run already. we need a popular jew in office one of these days.

It's still early and all sorts of things can happen at the last minute, but my money is on Obama. It seems unlikely to me that the majority of Americans would want another Republican in office.

The whole "he's got no experience!" thing is pretty big in the public's eye, and while Americans may be tired of Republicans, a shitty economy, soldiers dying in Iraq, whatever else, they certainly don't want to vote for someone they think can't do the job, or will make things worse. The "I'm tired of the Republicans, but I guess I'll vote for McCain because I don't think Obama could handle it" mindset will probably be driving a lot of people to vote for McCain. Obama's best chance is that a bunch of stodgy old voters die before election day, and that record numbers of hip young 20-somethings do their civic duty.
Plus there are plenty of Americans left who are still totally gay for the Republicans and Bush & co. Welcome to rural Pennsylvania!

At the same time, McCain is facing opposition from his own party. A lot of the neocons see him as a weak willed candidate who might not be strong enough to lead the party, while others are concerned about his age. Even his military service is being seen as a questionable boon, one that may offer him little support.
Then there's the fact that his current behaviour is making him unattractive to the other side. He's seen as a panderer and more of the same, where as before he was seen as a maverick for differing on certain issues.
A lot can happen come November, but Obama has a strong personality cult and is virtually bullet proof from smear campaigns given his relative inexperience and short time as a senator.
I think Obama might win. People seem very tired of republican presidents.
...then again I live in California.

True, cult of personality is a big decider. But didn't Nixon win under similar circumstances (ie, not being very well-spoken or likeable compared to his opponent)?
This begs the question of Nixon versus Obama. I wonder who would win that.
