i liked avatar a lot, but what the fuck happened to Azula? That's a big old thing that still bugs me.

i like to think she's still chained to that grate and people bring her like food and empty her bedpans and treat the occasional burn wounds she gets from her cuffs getting too hot during attempted escapes and shit, but they probably want us to assume she's in prison with her dad. one of my many criticisms of the finale is that they didn't really tie up any loose ends other than aang & katara, instead choosing to devote their time to animating a 17 minute "final battle" that, while awesome, does not satisfy on any psychological level. but i am a 24 year old man complaining about not being satisfied on a psychological level by a childrens cartoon, so i get that my concerns are not at the forefront of anyone's mind.

srsly if anyone wants to talk about avatar i'd be happy to, if i spent as much time thinking about how to sort out my life as i have thinking about the 4-part finale i probably wouldn't be a clerk right now. you've got to play to your strengths, no matter how depressing they may be.

hey i want to talk about avatar

i took like a yearlong hiatus from the series when working, and then a couple months ago saw the finale on nicktoons network - no idea when the series actually ended.

i wasnt too horribly interested in what happened to zuko's mother, as supporting characters go, she wasn't really there that often, but that's the most "open-ended" thing i can remember about the finale.

did they ever wrap up what happened to Jet? it may have been in the last couple of books, but i just kinda skipped over those.

did they ever wrap up what happened to Jet? it may have been in the last couple of books, but i just kinda skipped over those. she wasn't ever there. i think they did one episode with a flashback of her in it, but that's it. however, she WAS a key plot point towards the end - it came out that the firelord didn't actually kill her, just banished her somewhere, and it became another driving purpose for zuko. but yeah, that was intentionally open ended and a spot of contention among the fanbase - apparently there was a final scene to the finale that actually got animated where zuko met his mother, but mike cut it at the last minute and has never really definitively explained why, despite being questioned at con's and shit. ppl (including me lol) like to believe that it's an indication that the series isn't truly over and that there'll be a special sometime in the future where they deal with it, but it probably won't happen and will just go down in history as a minor dick move.

jet died at the end of season 2, in the episode "lake laogai", which is probably the best episode in the whole series and the one i would recommend first to anyone who has a vague idea of what's going on in the show.

I thought Zukos dick move to Katara and aang gaang or whatever at the end of season 2 made sense and was very compelling.

I also dont like katara like at all.

I think the whole take away Ozais powers thing was a copout, and i guess i wouldnt have minded so much if there was a precedent, but i feel like Aang just got his way without learning anything or making sacrifices.

what you cant kill someone it's on nickelodeon

how did they manage to get that to work?

katara's hot

well, he learned that there was a time before the avatar and how people dealt with their issues back then, i guess. i knew the ending was going to be kind of lame because it's nick and obv they won't let aang fucking impale ozai, and looking at it from that perspective it's a pretty okay ending, i think. one of the themes of the series was how aang didn't always have confidence in himself, and fucking lionturtle island made it clear that your own spirit has to be unbendable if you wish to bend someone elses, so i kind of see it as his final test of confidence or something. the seven seas of poop

what you cant kill someone it's on nickelodeon

how did they manage to get that to work? really carefully. they had long feng bend a wall at him and knock him the fuck out. katara goes over to try to heal him but can't, then longshot (remember the kid who never talked?) tells them to go away and rescue appa, they'll handle it, etc. jet says "don't worry katara, i'll be ok" and flashes that smile, and as they walk away, toph, who can sense when ppl are lying, says "he's lying" with tears in her eyes

it's a pretty good scene man i got chills just typing that

but yeah it never actually explains whether he dies (which is referenced in a later episode when they see a play about their lives) but brian said in an interview later that yeah, he's dead

I actually enjoy watching avatar. aside from some of the lame jokes they pull for the kids, I think it was a really good show.

but I agree with Mali, Katara kind of sucks. toph is badass though, and I actually like Sokka too, except when he's over-cheesy.

huh, I didn't notice before, but the movie's being directed by M. Night Shyamalan? for some reason, that's surprising to me. what a plot twist!
